This small portrait is made in one layer with pieces of denim fixed to at soft board. I have used a seam to create a small frame. Measure 25x25cm.
All portraits are done in denim. I call it “denim art”. I enjoy the transformation from a couple of old jeans to contemporary art. The portraits are meant to be recognisable to the viewer, and also express my creative interpretation of the person.
My motivation is to honour a great artist and my idealism about waste-issues and consumerism.
I believe that most people past 50 once danced to music that had Freddie Mercury behind the microphone.
He and the rest of the band QUEEN conquered the world in the 80’s. QUEEN got famous for their dancemusic, their magnificant shows and the very charismatic leadsinger with the very special voice, Freddie Mercury.
I loved the easiness in the music and all the dancing. My first experiences dancing with boys was to to this music. He represents a fun time in my life, so I wished to create this portrait. This is the smallest I have made, to see how that worked out.
